NEWS LETTER FROM APRIL  TO JUNE 2008

Dear Friends,

Warm greetings from Share & Care Children’s Welfare Society. We would like to bring you the news and activities for the months April to June 2008.
We have been inaugurating some new programmes for the welfare of the beneficiaries covered by the society.

INAUGURATION OF THE BALMER LAWRIE PROJECT ::

M/s. Balmer Lawrie came forward to sponsor the Programme   of the Aged Care implemented by Share and Care. 50 older persons from the scheduled caste were selected to be benefited directly.  HelpAge came forward to help 15 older persons. The programme was formally inaugurated on April 15th, in the Thirvalluvar Kalyana Mandapam, Manali. Mrs. Indira Rajadurai, Director of HelpAge Southern Region, Mr. Anbalagan, Mrs. Merlin. F. Feroze, HR Balmer Lawrie, Dr Balraj, Medical Officer, Share and Care Children’s Welfare Society,   Mr. Arokiasamy, Director, Share and Care, Mrs. Carmel, Deputy Director of Share and Care and Mrs. Kothai and Ms. Fatima, Co-ordinators of Share and Care and Mrs. Lumina, Accounts Officer of Share and Care, were present.  Mr. Murugan a Restaurant owner sponsored the lunch. The elders had competitions and prizes were distributed by Mr Feroze  HR.

Balmer Lawrie. The programme was concluded with the distribution of provisions  for the month to the Older beneficiaries.

PAPER UNIT INAUGURATED ::



Akash Eco Friendly Paper & Board, a unit for manufacturing Handmade Papers & Paper Boards was Inaugurated on April 17th of 2008 in Kalavai,  The Parish Priest from the local church blessed the occasion. The day started with 4 persons commencing the manufacturing process in the unit.   Visitors, staffs and workers had presumptuous lunch.

DAY CARE CENTRE FOR THE AGED CARE ::

The Day centre in Aynavaram was officially opened. 10 older persons were inducted into the centre. Most of the family members are domestic servants.  So they are below the poverty line. Hence the elderly are uncared for and not fed by the family members.  So it was necessary to have the centre for the deserving Aged to be taken care of during the day.  Now they are provided with three meals a day, daily.   They come in the morning at 9.00 AM and go back to their respective homes  at 4.30 PM.  The social worker visits the elders when they are sick and medical help provided.

WORKSHOP  CIDA (YWCA) ::

HELPAGE conducted a Workshop (CIDA)  @ YWCA, Chennai for 3 days from 6th  to 8th of May 2008.  The running and the impact of the project was discussed by the partners of Helpage and the officials of HelpAge.  Mr. Arokiasamy, Director of Share and Care attended the workshop.

RESULTS IN CHRIST KING SCHOOL ::

The X results for this year were declared by the State Government.  Christ King High School scored 95% There were 2 failures only and in total 37 children attended  the X std exams.

FILE MAKING UNIT ::

Training in Office File making was conducted in Anbagham in connection with Livelihood project.  Mr. Laxmanan, Resource Person conducted the Training on June 7th  for a day.   8 women attended the Training from our Organisation.

PICNIC TO MARINA BEACH. AND AWARENESS PROGRAMME ::

The inmates of Anbagam, Ayanavaram, went for a picnic to Marina Beach on June 16th of 2008.  They had lot of games and entertainment.  Each girl received a gift.  They enjoyed themselves very well for the whole day and in the mid-day lunch was served to them.

SCHOOL ADOLESCENT EDUCATION AWARENESS PROGRAMME ::

There was a District level Programme for Teachers called the State Adolescent Education Awareness Programme conducted at Poondi, Tiruvellore Dt.  The duration of the Programme was from 12th June to 17th June 2008.  The Teachers from the Christ King School attended the programme and updated the programme to other Teachers who were not present for the programme.

CORPORATE PROGRAMME CONDUCTED IN KATCHUR ::

On June 28th 2008, Trainees from Delphi – TVS conducted a Environmental Awareness programme for the Christ King School students.  Mr. Rajan, Senior Manager, guided the students and requested to adopt this programme on a regular basis every year for the students of Christ King School.  The children were encouraged to plant flower bearing plants to decorate the surroundings & the environment they study. Competitions were also conducted. At the end the students of Christ King School and the trainees had lunch together.
